My mother required the patience of a saint when her 4-year old daughter decided she wanted to learn to knit. Above all the process taught me, eventually, how to manage frustration and that perseverance was key to success. Her accolade of declaring me the better knitter was both a proud and humbling moment in equal measure. I still love to find and knit complex patterns devised by others, mostly my preference is to devise and make my own modest creations. Given the time consuming nature of hand knitting, my inclination is to use bulky natural yarns and simple shapes. I also take great pride in sourcing just the right button or toggle to give any piece a distinctive finishing touch.
